Slatwall, gridwall or pegboard?

Slatwall, gridwall and pegboard all turn a wall (or a free-standing unit) into flexible display space: you hang fittings on them and move them whenever you change your stock. Here's how they differ.

Slatwall

Slatwall panels have horizontal grooves. Fittings slot into any groove, so you can place them at any point along the wall.

  • Best for: a smart, finished look in fashion, footwear, gift and accessory shops.
  • Fittings: pin arms and euro arms for packaged goods, straight and sloping arms for clothes, shelf brackets for glass or timber shelves, shoe shelves, baskets, picture hooks, cap holders, and Shelfbox, Storbox and Slatbox storage boxes.

Gridwall mesh

Gridwall is a chrome wire mesh panel. Fittings hook onto the mesh anywhere.

  • Best for: displays that need to move or stand on their own: panels can fix to the wall with brackets, stand on support legs or T-legs, or be joined into free-standing units with joining clips.
  • Fittings: mesh pin arms, euro arms, shelves (including glass shelf brackets), baskets and hat stands.
  • Sizes: panels come in 4ft, 5ft and 6ft heights.

Pegboard

Pegboard has rows of holes that take pegboard hooks.

  • Best for: a simple, low-cost display of small, packaged and hanging items, in shops, workshops and storerooms.
  • Fittings: single pegboard hooks in different lengths (for example 100mm, 152mm and 228mm).

Do the fittings swap between systems?

Mostly no: slatwall, gridwall and pegboard each use their own fittings, so buy the arms and hooks made for your system. Some items are designed for more than one, such as baskets that fit both slatwall and gridwall, and Slatbox storage, which fits slatwall, gridwall and pegboard. Each product page says what it fits.
